Raddison Banks’ 86th-minute goal brought the deficit to one in a late comeback effort.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Long Beach State's late push for an equalizer came up short, despite an 86th-minute goal from Raddison Banks to put the Beach on the board.
Looking to build off Thursday's strong second-half performance, Long Beach State (1-3-0) applied early pressure as Logan Nidy found space for a clean look that sailed just high. LBSU finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots.
Portland (1-1-1) opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a header from Violet Rademacher. The match's physical tone was on display early, with the Pilots picking up three yellow cards in the first half.
The Beach responded after the break, outshooting Portland 9-4 and controlling possession for much of the final 30 minutes. Despite limited chances, the Pilots capitalized again when Aliyah Dockter doubled the lead.
Goalkeeper Aurora Schuck anchored LBSU defensively with four saves, keeping the Beach within reach. Banks broke through in the 86th minute for her second goal of the season, cutting the deficit in half, but Long Beach State was unable to find the equalizer before time expired.
Long Beach State finishes the third leg of its three-game road trip in Los Angeles to take on UCLA on Friday at 7 p.m.
