Carpenter’s Epic Three-Set Win Gives Long Beach State Win Over Dartmouth

Daisy Carpenter’s third set tiebreaker win gave the Beach a 4-3 win over Dartmouth to close the week’s action for Beach Tennis.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Daisy Carpenter and Brooke Hess battled for hours with the match on the line, finally going to a third-set tiebreaker which the Long Beach State freshman won convincingly to close out a 4-3 win over Dartmouth at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The doubles point also went right down to the wire. Top flight pair of Peyton Capuano and Michela Moore were 6-3 winners over Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair, but Long Beach State (10-3) evened the point as Diana De Simone and Paulina Franco won the second flight against Elizabeth Fahmeirer and Elise Wong, 7-5. Coming down to the final doubles match, Thea Jagare and Pamela Badillo forced a doubles-point deciding tiebreaker, but Sam Grosjean and Brooke Hess won that 7-5 to win the point for Dartmouth (6-6).
Long Beach State quickly battled back. Badillo and Jagare each grabbed singles wins to put the Beach on top 2-1. Badillo was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at the fives and Jagare won a second-set tiebreak after a 6-2 first set win over Lauren Han.
Dartmouth evened the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win from Moore over Costa. Daria Malaescu won a back-and-forth match with Grosjean in the fourth flight, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 as the Beach pulled within one singles win from the match victory. Peyton Capuano evened the match though with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the top flight over De Simone, setting the stage for Carpenter's match-deciding marathon.
Long Beach State's homestand will finish next week with a sixth and final home match, as the Beach resumes Big West competition against UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, March 26 at 1 p.m. from the Rhodes Tennis Center.
