
Hershtynovich, Nikolov Named Big West Defensive Player and Freshman Of The Week

Daniil Hershtynovich takes home the Defensive Player of the Week honor for the first time in his career, while Moni Nikolov earns the Freshman of the Week honor for the second time this season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Big West announced the Men's Volleyball Player of the Week awards and Long Beach State's Daniil Hershtynovich took home the Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Moni Nikolov claimed Freshman Player of the Week accolades.Â
Hershtynovich earned the honors for the first time in his career after having a career-high six digs against UCLA in addition to two blocks. At the net this season he has 21 total blocks, with four of those being solo. Against UCLA, he averaged .75 blocks a set which ranks tenth in The Big West. The junior also had a productive game on offense as he knocked down 10 kills, his fourth time this season with double-digit kills. Â

Nikolov is a true freshman who has started in all nine matches for Long Beach State this season. Last week, the setter had a dominant all-around performance as he averaged 9.50 assists per set. Additionally, he contributed five kills and seven aces to the offense, while on defense grabbing two digs and two blocks.Â

On the year, Nikolov leads The Big West and the nation in aces with 1.13 aces per set.Â
