PORTLAND, Ore. – Long Beach State pulled to within two in the second half on the road at Portland, but a hot shooting night from the Pilots was too much for the Beach to overcome on the road in a 93-73 loss.

Sophomore Petar Majstorovic scored a career-high 23 points and Long Beach State (1-6) had four players in double-figures, but Portland (5-3) shot 70% from the floor and were 17-of-19 from the free throw line as the Pilots put together an impressive offensive performance.

The Pilots missed just nine two-point shots on the night and were 50% from three, led by Timo George and Joel Foxwell who both scored 19 points for Portland.

Portland never trailed, opening the game on a 10-4 run, and pushing out to a 15-point lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half at 31-16. Long Beach State rallied, however, getting a spark with two quick threes from Shaquil Bender and Cole Farrell. An 8-0 run just before the end of the half got the Beach within five, and Portland led by just seven at the break, 42-35.

Long Beach State kept the pressure on to start the second half, as a jumper from Gavin Sykes and a three-point play brought the Beach within two at 42-40, but the hot shooting from the Pilots continued, scoring on their next five possessions to rebuild the lead to ten points at 52-42.

The Beach never again pulled within single-digits as Portland pulled away from that point. Cole Farrell added 13 points in his return to Portland, while Christian Jones added 12 and Gavin Sykes ended with 11 points.

Long Beach State will return home and host San Diego in the LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid in the next game for the program. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 30.
