Two Second Half Goals Lead CSUN Past Long Beach State In Season Finale For Women’s Soccer

10/30/2025 9:24:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Sophomore Malea Johnson scored her first goal of the season in the defeat at CSUN.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Long Beach State took a 1-0 lead into halftime after the opening goal from sophomore Malea Johnson, but CSUN scored twice in the second half to defeat the Beach in the final game of the season for LBSU, 2-1.

CSUN (8-7-4, 6-1-3 Big West) opened up the game with the first shot of the contest in the sixth minute, but Long Beach State (5-8-5, 2-4-4 Big West) goalkeeper Aurora Schuck easily made the save as the action got going. Riley Liesback, the CSUN goalie, made a strong save of her own as a shot from Kana Uchida was deflected as the early chances evened out.

Long Beach State got a great opportunity in the 18th minute as Radisson Banks sent a cross towards the center of the penalty box for senior Logan Nidy who banged a shot off of the crossbar as the score remained tied.

The Beach then picked up an early lead in the 28th minute. Banks and Ameera White combined to send in Malea Johnson, and the sophomore beat Liesback to the far post for her first goal of the season and the first goal of the game.

CSUN made one last attempt in the closing minutes of the first half, but Schuck closed down Ariah Velasquez in a one-on-one moment to keep the Beach in front through 45 minutes 1-0.

The Matadors were able to equalize at home just after the start of the second half, as Leah Peterson was able to sneak a ball past the near post to even the score at 1-1. Jordyn Canister then slipped in behind the offside trap of the Beach defense, and the sophomore made the Beach pay, giving the Matadors a 2-1 lead.

CSUN was able to close out the win, holding off the Beach over the closing minutes. Schuck made a season-high eight saves for Long Beach State, while Banks had a trio of shots to lead the offense.
