Beach Women’s Basketball Improves To 4-0 In Big West Action With a 58-43 Victory Over Cal State Bakersfield

Jada Crawshaw led all scorers with 16 points, while Rachel Loobie added 12, and JaQuoia Jones-Brown notched 10 rebounds in the contest

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 58-43, on Saturday afternoon at the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach improve to 4-0 in Big West action, while moving to 8-5 overall. The Roadrunners, meanwhile, have dropped their 14th straight match as they drop to 0-14 on the year and 0-4 in league play.

Jada Crawshaw led all scorers with 16 points as she connected on 4-of-7 field goals. She also contributed four rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Also turning in double-figures for LBSU was Rachel Loobie as she finished with 12 points to go along with nine rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and one assist.

JaQuoia Jones-Brown's 10 rebounds marked her second double-figure rebounding showing of the year. Lovely Sonnier grabbed nine boards, while Patricia Chung added seven to contribute to LBSU's 52 rebounds in the contest.



Long Beach State wasted no time getting going. The Beach capitalized on a three by Loobie that kicked off a 7-0 run to put them on top, 9-4, with 7:02 on the clock. The Beach extended their lead over the Roadrunners to 10 (20-10) by 2:30 thanks to another 7-0 run, highlighted by a Crawshaw triple. By the end of the frame, LBSU led Cal State Bakersfield, 22-10.

The Beach continued their offensive tear in the second quarter as they shot 42.1% in the frame after making 8-of-19 field goals. LBSU used a 10-0 run capped by a three from Kennan Ka to give the Beach a 32-14 advantage. By halftime Long Beach held a 20-point lead (41-21) over Cal State Bakersfield.



The Roadrunners began chipping away at Long Beach State's lead in the second half. In the third quarter, Cal State Bakersfield scored eight-consecutive points to close the frame, and cut LBSU's lead down to 13 (51-38).

Cal State Bakersfield managed to cut Long Beach State's lead down to nine (52-43) with 5:10 left to play, but that was as close as the Roadrunners would get. The Beach closed the game scoring six-unanswered points to secure the 58-43 victory.

Bakersfield's leading scorer was Caitie Gingras with 12 points, while Ary Dizon posted eight points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists against eight turnovers.

Long Beach State will host UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. inside the Walter Pyramid. The contest will be live streamed on ESPN+.
