Moni Nikolov Named Big West Freshman Of The Week

The freshman setter led Long Beach State to an unbeaten week in the Midwest.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Freshman setter Moni Nikolov helped guide No. 1 Long Beach State to a trio of road wins, and was named the Big West Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Traveling to the Midwest to face three opponents on the road, Nikolov helped Long Beach State to a .394 hitting percentage as a team over the week which featured wins over Lindenwood, McKendree and No. 12 Lewis.
Nikolov averaged 10.9 assists per set while guiding the offense, but also played a big part himself, finishing with 14 kills on the week and leading the team in both aces with nine and digs with 30. The Beach handed the Flyers their first loss of the season and moved up one spot with the team's performance over the weekend.
Nikolov is the first weekly award winner of the young season for top-ranked Long Beach State.
After three games away, the Beach will return to Long Beach to host Concordia on Friday evening, before taking on No. 11 Pepperdine on the road on Sunday.
