Men’s Water Polo Drops Contest Against No. 2 Stanford

Freshman Corbin Stanley scored four goals in the game.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 10 Long Beach State saw their six-game winning streak snapped, pushing No. 2 Stanford at home in a 13-10 defeat.
Long Beach State (6-2) held close throughout the first half, even though Gavin West opened the scoring for Stanford (6-0) on the first possession. The Beach bounced back quickly with back-to-back goals from the Spanish duo of Gabi Acosta and Marc Frigola to take the lead, and LBSU trailed the Cardinal by just one at halftime, 7-6.
Stanford was able to pull out in front with a four-goal third quarter to take an 11-7 lead, and despite two goals in the final quarter for true freshman Corbin Stanley, the Cardinal held on for a 13-10 victory.
Corbin Stanley led the team with four goals, followed by Gabi Acosta and Evan Cain with a pair of goals. Marc Frigola and Jason O'Donnell both scored one goal. Goalkeeper Liam Ward had seven saves in the loss.
The Beach is back in action next weekend in Berkeley, Calif. for the MPSF Invite starting on September 20.
