Beach Women’s Volleyball Drops Straight-Set Contest At No. 10 Oregon

Natalie Glenn, Ella Lomigora turn in strong showings in the setback
EUGENE, ORE. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team suffered a 3-0 [18-25, 17-25, 16-25] road loss at No. 10 Oregon on Sunday afternoon at the Oregon Invitational.
The Beach (0-2) battled the Ducks (1-1) through 15 ties and seven lead changes over three sets, but ultimately came up short.
Senior outside hitter Natalie Glenn set the tone for Long Beach State as she recorded a team-leading eight kills, while hitting .350. Glenn also led the Beach in digs with nine, while adding one ace and one assist.
Sophomore middle blocker Ella Lomigora also turned in a solid performance as she led the Beach with a .400 attack percentage (5-1-10) and three blocks.
Senior setter Zayna Meyer dished out 21 assists, while senior outside hitter Abby Karich finished with five kills, five digs, two aces, and a block.
Long Beach State and Oregon fought each other through a competitive first set. The Beach hit .216 in the frame, while the Ducks hit .471. The Beach opened the match with a quick 2-0 advantage. The game went back-and-forth as the two teams traded leads five separate times. After scoring three-straight points, Long Beach State held a 16-14 lead over the hosts. However, Oregon would go on to close the set on an 8-0 run on the way to winning 25-18.
The second set began close as the two teams traded points early on. Oregon would go on to score four-consecutive points to take a 9-6 lead that it would never relinquish. Long Beach State chipped away at the Ducks' lead but never came closer than within two. Oregon took the second set, 25-17.
Trailing 2-0, Long Beach State pushed hard in the third set. However, several small Oregon runs put the Ducks on top, 11-7. The Beach managed to close the gap as they trailed by just one (12-11). But the Ducks would use a 6-0 run to open the game up and take an 18-11 edge over the Beach. From there, Oregon held the lead the rest of the way before earning a 25-16 win to complete the sweep.
Colby Neal and Mimi Colyer led the Oregon offense with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Neal hit an impressive .929 in the contest as she scored her 13 kills on 14 errorless swings. Additionally, Neal put up seven block assists in the match. Cristin Cline passed out 41 assists helping the Ducks to a .375 clip. In the backcourt, Daley McClellan and Mackenzie Morris each notched 10 digs.
Long Beach State returns home to host Northwestern on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m., at the Walter Pyramid.
