Turner Finishes 20th in the Decathlon

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Long Beach State's Aidan Turner represented Canada in the decathlon at the 2024 World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru on Aug. 29-30.
 
Turner scored 6,087 points. He finished 20th in the 27-man field despite fouling on each of his three attempts in the long jump. Turner reset personal bests during the competition in the shot put (42-5 1/4), 400m (49.98), 110m hurdles (14.55), discus (137-8 13/4), javelin (91-11), and 1500m (5:02.55). 
 
With limited opportunities to qualify for the U-20 World Championships, Long Beach State created a meet certified by World Athletics and the USATF, the Multi at the Beach. The competition was conducted at the Jack Rose Track on July 18-19.
 
Turner won the Multi at the Beach by scoring 7,131 points, outpacing second-place Dmytro Soboliev by 932. Turner won the 100m (10.90), long jump (23-5 1/2), shot put (43-8), 400m (50.03), 110m hurdles (14.60), discus (146-0), and pole vault (15-3).
