LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State hosted Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon in an exhibition match that went the distance. The Beach came away with a 3-2 [15-25, 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 15-8] victory over the Lions at the Walter Pyramid in their lone exhibition before the start of the 2024 campaign.
The Beach turned in a solid performance as eight returners hit the court along with three newcomers.
After dropping the opening set, 25-15, Long Beach State bounced back and claimed the second set, 25-17, to even the match at 1-1. The Beach took a 2-0 set lead after knocking off LMU, 25-22, in the third set.
Despite jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead in the fourth, Long Beach State came up short as the Lions forced a fifth set with a 25-20 victory.
LBSU got off to a strong start in the fifth, but Loyola Marymount would threaten. The Beach remained composed and got several strong performances from Madi Maxwell, Natalie Glenn, and Kameron Bacon as they went on to defeat the Lions, 15-8, to capture the match.
