Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball Picked to Finish Third in 2024 Big West Preseason Coaches’ Poll Zayna Meyer and Natalie Glenn named to the Big West Preseason Coaches Team

IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West released the 2024 Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday afternoon and Long Beach State was chosen to finish third. The Beach garnered 83 points and two first-place votes. Additionally, LBSU boasts a pair of players of the Preseason Coaches Team in Zayna Meyer and Natalie Glenn.

Cal Poly was chosen as the preseason favorite with 94 points and five first-place votes. Hawaii came in second, edging the Beach by just two points for a total of 85 points and three first-place votes. Coming in behind Long Beach State is UC Santa Barbara with 75 points and one first-place vote. Meanwhile, UC San Diego (63 points), UC Irvine (60 points), and UC Davis (49 points) take the fifth, sixth, and seventh spots.

Rounding out the bottom of the preseason poll are Cal State Bakersfield (35 points) which comes in eighth, CSUN (21 points) which takes ninth, and Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside (20 points) in a tie for 10th place.

In addition to coming in third in the preseason poll, Long Beach State garnered a pair of players on the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Redshirt junior setter Zayna Meyer was selected to the team for the second consecutive year, while senior outside hitter Natalie Glenn earned a nod this year.

Meyer is coming off of a breakout season in which she was named The Big West Setter of the Year. She also earned All-Region honors as well as a First Team All-Big West selection after averaging 9.99 assists per set over 31 matches played. Meyer led the Beach to a .244 hitting percentage on the year, which marked the best attack percentage in the Big West.

Glenn, a 2023 Second Team All-Big West selection, started in 22 of 23 matches played. She led the Beach with 37 aces, averaging 0.45 aces per set. She was second on the team in kills with 2.74 per set, and fourth on the squad in blocking (0.62 per set).

Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2024 Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team on Saturday, August 24 when they host LMU at 1 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid in an exhibition match.
