A Top 50 recruit coming out of high school with four years of collegiate experience, Askew will be expected to immediately make an impact on the point guard position at Long Beach State. His best collegiate season came in 2022-23 with Cal, where he led the team with 15.5 points per game while averaging 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game before missing the final two months of the season with injury. He scored a career-high 25 points at No. 4 Arizona and had 17 points or more in eight of his 13 games played that season. This past season, Askew battled through six games before shutting down on January 9 with a foot injury, averaging 6.2 points per game with the Golden Bears.

Originally signing with Kentucky as the No. 26 National Prospect out of Mater Dei, Askew played in 25 games and made 20 starts as a true freshman with the Wildcats before transferring to Texas for his sophomore season. A star with Mater Dei, he averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game in his senior season while earning First-Team All-CIF honors as one of the most sought after point guards in the nation.

Acker on Askew:
"Devin's experience is going to serve us well here at the Beach. He is a true floor general with an ability to get everyone on the same page on the court. He is a great person and comes from a tremendous family. We look forward to him continuing his journey here at the Beach as we work to build towards representing our great tradition here."

Askew is the second transfer in the door for Long Beach State, joining Derrick Michael Xzavierro from Grand Canyon as Division I student-athletes coming to the Beach. They will supplement two high school freshmen in 6-9 forward Andrew Nagy and 6-4 guard Kam Martin.
