Long Beach State Hosts Black & Gold Awards

LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Long Beach State athletic department hosted the annual Black and Gold ceremony Apr. 22 in the Walter Pyramid. 

The following presentations were made;
Pyramid Leadership Award Cindy Masner Staff Excellence Award
  • Caitlin Broadwell, Athletics Case Manager
 Beach Pride Award
  • Nelson Farris 
Team GPA Winners
  • Spring 2023, Women's Tennis 
  • Fall 2023, Women's Tennis 
Community Service Award
  • Winner, Women's Basketball 
  • Runner-Up, Beach Volleyball 
2023 Big West Scholars For the first time, the 2024 Black and Gold ceremony was streamed live on the LBSU social media channels. For the first time, members of the Bickerstaff Academic Center for Student-Athlete Services were invited to the ceremony and honored. 

Various athletes won superlatives voted on by their teammates, such as Team parent, team clown, Beach Spirit, Hype Person, and Newcomer of the Year.  Graduating seniors received their Student Athlete graduation sashes, walked across the stage, and took a photo with LBSU Athletic Director Bobby Smitheran. 

New SAAC Executive Reps were appointed, and the night, which the Naples Rib Company hosted, concluded with a highlight video showing various highlights from the year, including the multiple Big West Championships won by Long Beach State.
