Long Beach State Women’s Basketball Falls To UC San Diego On The Road

Casey Valenti-Paea leads the Beach with 14 points and six rebounds in the loss

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team suffered a tough road setback to UC San Diego, 78-45, on Saturday afternoon at LionTree Arena.

The Beach (8-13, 3-8 Big West) were led by Casey Valenti-Paea who finished the game with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one block. Meanwhile, all five of the Tritons' (10-12, 6-5 Big West) starters scored in double-figures as they were led by Denali Pinto's 21-point performance.

UC San Diego started the game off scoring seven-straight points. The Tritons took an 11-1 lead over the Beach by 6:07 in the opening frame as LBSU called a timeout. UCSD came out of the break in action and went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 19-1 lead over the Beach by 2:51. Olivia Moore gave Long Beach State its first field goal of the contest at 2:22 as LBSU trailed 19-4, before heading into the second quarter down 24-9.

The Tritons continued their run into the second as they scored six-straight points to go up 32-12 at 5:13. UC San Diego closed the first half on a 5-0 run as the Tritons led the Beach, 41-16 at halftime.

The Beach came back battling in the third quarter as they managed to cut UC San Diego's lead down to 43-21 at 6:58. Valenti-Paea led Long Beach State as she scored 11 of her 14 points in the frame as LBSU went to the fourth quarter trailing 59-33.

UCSD extended its lead to as many as 37 (71-34) after tallying seven consecutive points. With the game in the Tritons' control, the hosts went on to win, 78-45.
Savannah Tucker finished the game with seven points, three boards, three steals, and three blocks. Patricia Chung led the team with three assists to go along with five points and five rebounds.

Izzy Forsyth concluded the game with a double-double for the Tritons as she posted 11 points and 10 rebounds. Also reaching double-digits for UCSD were Gracie Gallegos (15 points), Sumayah Sugapong (12 points), and Parker Montgomery (10 points).

Long Beach State's next action will be on Saturday, February 10 when the Beach face Cal Poly at 2 p.m., in San Luis Obispo. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
