LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior outside hitter Sotiris Siapanis led No. 1 Long Beach State to its ninth-straight victory on Saturday night as the Beach swept King 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach started the match off strong. Hitting .435 with 13 kills in the first set, Long Beach State took control as it held the Tornado to a .033 attack percentage. Several short 3-0 runs in the frame kept the Beach in the lead, before Sani went back to serve and led LBSU on a 4-0 run to give the Beach a 23-14 lead before Long Beach took the opening set, 25-17.

The second set was the most competitive between the two teams. Long Beach State hit .438 and King posted a .259 attack percentage. The Beach and the Tornado exchanged leads four times and fought through seven ties before Long Beach State finally jumped out in front 14-12 on a kill from Siapanis. The Beach held the lead the rest of the way and closed the set on a 4-0 run highlighted by a kill from Sani as LSBU won set two, 25-20, and took a 2-0 lead over King.
