Sebastiano Sani, Nato Dickinson Lead Top-Ranked Long Beach State To Straight Set Victory Over Edward Waters

The Beach hit .500 as a team as Island Doty did an excellent job distributing the ball, while Sebastiano Sano led all scorers with 10 kills

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 1 Long Beach State earned a convincing 3-0 [25-8, 25-17, 25-12] sweep over Edward Waters on Friday night at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (12-1) hit .500 on the night and held the advantage over the Tigers (2-4) in every statistical category. Long Beach State led in kills (33-12), assists (31-12), aces (9-2), digs (16-10), and blocks (9.5-0.0). It was the fourth time this season the Beach's opponent was held to zero blocks in the match, and it was the second time in as many days.

Setter Island Doty ran a balanced offense as he distributed the ball around evenly. He got 10 hitters involved over the three set and finished with 21 assists to go along with two digs, one block, one ace, and a kill of his own.

Sebastiano Sani led all scorers with 10 kills on a .375 clip (10-4-16), while serving up three aces, and posting two blocks.



Nato Dickinson was excellent as he hit .600 on the night. He tallied seven kills on 10 swings, while committing just one error. He also helped the Beach defensively putting up two blocks and logging three digs.

Noan Robin and Ben Braun led the Beach in blocking defense as they each recorded four blocks on the night. Robin also registered a pair of kills, while Braun scored two kills and two aces.

Sani got things going for the Beach right away. He led LBSU on an early 5-0 run highlight by three kills to give Long Beach a 5-2 edge over Edward Waters. The Beach really broke the game open when they went on an 8-0 run to jump out in front, 15-4, thanks to back-to-back aces from Braun. Caden Jackson came in off the bench and led the Beach on an incredible service run that culminated in a set-winning ace to cap an 8-0 run as LBSU won the opening set 25-8.



In the second set, Long Beach State used several small runs to continue adding to their lead. Sebastian Rodriguez entered the game and put the Beach up 12-5 after serving up an ace. A kill from Dickinson followed by an ace from Doty gave LBSU the second set, 25-17.

With a 2-0 set lead, Long Beach State turned in a .571 attack percentage in the third set. The Beach opened the frame with three-straight points and never trailed. LBSU went up 11-4 after a kill from Doty following a timeout by the Tigers. From there, the Beach continued adding to their lead. A Sani kill give LBSU a 17-9 edge, which forced a timeout by Edward Waters. Freshman Josh Weyerhaeuser came in and led the Beach on a solid serving run as the hosts closed the set and match on a 5-0 run to claim the third set, 25-12.

Richard Hendricks led the Tigers with five kills. Setter Kenyon Haynes dished out 10 assists, while adding four digs.

Long Beach State will host No. 13 Lewis next Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
