LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State held off a game Cal Poly team behind 26 points off of turnovers and a hot shooting night from Jadon Jones in a 77-68 win over the Mustangs on Saturday.

                Jones was 9-for-14 from the field and 5-of-8 from three, finishing with 26 points in a season-high for the junior. Jones had come into the game needing 25 points to become the 25th player in the 74 seasons of Beach Basketball to score 1,000 career points with LBSU and did so in a home win.

                Long Beach State (15-9, 7-5 Big West) held the lead for all but 44 seconds of the contest, but Cal Poly (4-21, 0-13 Big West) despite their record put up a fight throughout the contest. The Beach got off to a fast start and a 13-4 lead, but the Mustangs battled back to take the lead both at 18-17 and then 20-19. The Beach would push back in front and up to an eight-point lead on a Jones triple at 32-24 and held a 39-35 edge at the halftime.

                Tied at 52-52, Long Beach State would rally with a 7-0 run and eventually take a nine-point lead on a transition dunk from Amari Stroud at 63-54, but the Mustangs had one more answer, tying the game at 63 on a Kobe Sanders 3-pointer with just over three minutes.

                Jones and Marcus Tsohonis extended the lead for Long Beach State from the line while the Beach forced a few consecutive stops. Up 70-67, Long Beach State made one final key defensive stand, and finished off the game primarily from the free throw line to grab the victory.

                Long Beach State will return to the road next week, facing UC Davis for the first time this season on Thursday night before a Saturday rematch against CSUN. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
