Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Cal State Fullerton

Zayna Meyer leads the Beach to a 3-0 win over the Titans with a double-double
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 sweep [25-15, 25-21, 25-18] over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid.
Long Beach (12-6, 6-2 Big West) hit .354 and tallied a season-high 10 service aces on the night. Cal State Fullerton meanwhile, dropped to 4-14 overall and 0-8 in Big West action.
Senior setter Zayna Meyer has been on-point all season. Tonight against the Titans, she recorded a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs as she piloted the Beach to a .354 clip. Meyer also contributed to the offensive attack with six kills on eight errorless swings to hit .750 in the contest. She was solid at the service line racking up a trio of aces, while also chipping in one block assist.
Senior outside hitter Abby Karich led all scorers with 11 kills on a .409 (11-2-22) hitting percentage. She also added four digs and two blocks.
In addition to Meyer's three aces, the Beach also got a trio of aces from Savana Chacon and Natalie Glenn.
Glenn would go on to finish the match with eight kills on a .375 (8-2-16) attack percentage, five digs, and three blocks, while freshman outside hitter Jaida Harris totaled seven kills while hitting .312 (7-2-16).
Senior Kameron Bacon put up a team-leading six block assists to go along with four kills on a .300 hitting percentage (4-1-10).
The Beach started the match off strong as they jumped out in front to a 6-0 lead forcing the Titans to take an early timeout. Long Beach State opened up a 10-point lead (23-13) after a pair of aces from Meyer. LBSU led the entire set as the Beach rolled to a 25-15 win.
Cal State Fullerton took an early lead in the second set (7-3), but the Beach were quick to tie things up at 9-all. From there, Long Beach State used a pair of 4-0 runs to take an 18-13 advantage before coming back to win the set, 25-21, to lead 2-0.
The Beach hit .476 (13-3-21) in the third set, while holding the Titans to a .148 (9-5-27) clip. Hot-hitting Long Beach State got a kill from Harris and another from Glenn to extend its lead to six (16-10). The Beach controlled the rest of the frame and pushed it to match point after a kill from Bacon sandwiched between a pair of kills from Harris (24.17). Bacon put the game and match away with her fourth kill of the match giving the Beach a 25-18 victory to complete the sweep.
The Titans were led by Lolo Fonua's six kills, while setter Mya Tillman dished out 13 assists, and Lyla Traylor added six digs. On blocking defense, Bianca Martinez put up three blocks.
Long Beach State will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 24 against Cal Poly. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
