Kameron Bacon, Madi Maxwell Named Big West Defensive, Freshman Of The Week

The award is Bacon’s second of the season and Maxwell’s first of her career
IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the weekly women's volleyball awards and Long Beach State earned two nods. Senior Kameron Bacon claimed her second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, and Madi Maxwell collected her first career Freshman of the Week award.
The pair were solid as they helped Long Beach State to a 2-0 record last week. The Beach defeated CSUN (3-0) and Cal State Bakersfield (3-1) on the road on their way to winning seven of their last eight contests.
Bacon picked up her fourth career conference weekly honor after averaging 2.00 blocks per set, while limiting opponents to a .087 attack percentage. The 6-foot-4 middle blocker also contributed offensively averaging 1.71 kills per set on a .476 hitting percentage.
In a sweep of the Matadors, Bacon posted six blocks, one solo, and registered six kills, while hitting .625 (6-1-8) in the match. Two days later, she went on to put up eight blocks and six kills on a .385 clip against the Roadrunners. Bacon is currently leading The Big West in blocks per set with 1.21.
Maxwell was excellent last week as she helped the Beach earn a pair of road victories on her way to garnering her first career Big West Freshman of the Week award. The opposite from Newhall, Calif., averaged 3.00 kills per set, while hitting .333 to go along with 2.57 digs per set and five aces in the Beach's wins at CSUN and Cal State Bakersfield.
The rookie started the week with nine kills, seven digs, and one assist against the Matadors on Thursday. In Saturday's contest against the Roadrunners, Maxwell recorded her first-collegiate double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, while hitting .471 (12-2-24). She also served up a career-high five aces, while chipping in four assists.
