DAVIS, Calif. – No. 9 Long Beach State (12-7, 0-1) opened Big West play with a loss against No. 13 UC Davis. Seniors Bruno Chiappini and Evan Cain recorded hat tricks on the match.

The Beach started the game with a strong defense with Senior Aaron Wilson stopping two quick shots by the Aggies. Senior Evan Cain scored his first of the match to put the Beach on the board first. Freshman Corbin Stanley netted one to extend the lead 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter of the game started with a goal by the Aggies but Cain's second goal would keep the Beach in the lead by two. UC Davis quick back-to-back goals tied the game at three before Senior Bruno Chiappini scored his first of the match and put the Beach back on the lead. A buzzer-beater goal by the Aggies tied the game 4-4 at halftime.

Cain's third goal of the match opened things for the Beach at the third period. The Aggies responded on a quick goal to tie the game one more time. Freshman Gabi Acosta scored on an extra man play assisted by Cain and Chiappini got on the board again to put the Beach up 7-5. UC Davis answered with two quick goals to tie the game leading into the last quarter, 7-7.

On the last quarter of the match, the Aggies got on the board first and Freshman Artur Diaz tied one more time with five minutes left in the game, A three-goal run by UC Davis let them in control of the match 11-8. Chiappini's late goal would make the game 11-9.

The Beach is back in the pool tomorrow against No. 8 California at 1 p.m. with livestream provided by Overnght and live stats by 6-8 score.
