Gladie Jaffe, Lauren Goins will support Long Beach State's fundraising and strategic development efforts.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Smitheran has announced the hiring of two key positions, as Gladie Jaffe will join the department as the Senior Associate AD for Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives and Lauren Goins will help guide the department's fundraising efforts as the Associate Athletic Director of Development at Long Beach State.
With nearly 15 years of work in the collegiate athletics landscape, Jaffe will join the Beach following eight years of service as the Chief of Staff at San Diego State Athletics.
"I am excited to welcome Gladie Jaffe to the Beach," said Smitheran. "I know her experience and vision will enable her to positively impact our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and the greater Long Beach community. In her role as Senior Associate AD for Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives, Gladie will directly impact our external efforts to improve engagement with supporters, student-athlete alumni, and the campus community. As we chart a vision for the future of Beach Athletics, Gladie will help provide leadership in development of a strategic plan that will create initiatives aimed at long-term, sustainable success."
In her role as Chief of Staff at San Diego State and as a member of the executive leadership team Jaffe provided strategic counsel to the Director of Athletics, supporting operations and management of budget, personnel policy development, external partnerships, and strategic initiatives. She managed a variety of special projects including but not limited to executive-level hiring, leadership development and staff engagement initiatives, conference realignment, and a major organizational structure redesign. Jaffe also had heavy involvement in the opening of the Aztecs' new 35,000 seat multipurpose venue, Snapdragon Stadium.
Prior to her elevation to the Chief of Staff role, Jaffe worked in various other administrative and instructional capacities at San Diego State University.
"I am tremendously honored and excited to join Long Beach State Athletics and eager to make meaningful contributions that support the student-athlete experience," said Jaffe. "I'm deeply grateful for this opportunity to support Bobby Smitheran's strategic vision for the future of the Beach, and I'm excited to work with this outstanding team of staff, coaches, and student-athletes - building upon the historical success of this program and continuing to find opportunities for engagement and alignment with the diverse and vibrant culture of the Long Beach community."
Lauren Goins joins the department in a modified role as the new Director of Development, collaborating with University Relations and Development to provide a focused athletics-driven approach to fundraising that is in alignment with larger University directives regarding development.
A Division I student-athlete who competed in women's volleyball at Cal State Fullerton, Goins went on to play professionally in Europe, earning a master's degree in Germany during a multiple year stay on the continent.
We're excited to welcome Lauren Goins as our new director of development at Long Beach State," said Senior Associate Athletics Director, Sean Ferrera. "With a strong track record in building relationships and fundraising, Lauren will play a key role in the future success of the Beach Athletic Fund. Her expertise and dedication will positively influence our student-athletes, coaches, and the wider community."
Returning to the United States, Goins started her career in development with USA Volleyball in Anaheim, and then returned to her Alma Mater in Fullerton where she worked for six years, leading efforts for the Titans to earn over $7.5 million dollars.
After spending one year at Whittier College, her most recent stop was at Cal Poly Pomona, where as the Assistant Athletics Director of Development she managed a portfolio of over 125 donors and in the last two years raised over $500,000 for the Division II program.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Beach and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish together," said Goins. "As a former student-athlete myself, I know exactly how collegiate athletics positively impact so many people and I will do my utmost to connect others who want to make a difference at Long Beach State with our student-athletes who represent our community."
