Long Beach State Hits A Season Best .580
LONG BEACH, Calif.— No. 3 Long Beach State hit a season-high of .580 as the Beach defeated Concordia University Irvine in straight sets Saturday night at the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach recorded 32 kills against only three errors in 50 attempts against the Golden Eagles. Long Beach State defeated CUI 25-15 in set one, 25-8 in set two, and 25-9 in the third.
Clarke Godbold paced LBSU by posting eight kills in 11 tries (8-1-11) for a .636 hitting percentage. Skylar Varga recorded six kills in nine attempts (.667), while Sotiris Siapanis was .545 (6-0-11) from the field. LBSU setter Aidan Knipe dished out 30 assists and added five digs. The Beach recorded 13.5 team blocks compared to none for CUI.
The Golden Eagles (3-1) hit -.093 (19-26-75), a season-low for a Long Beach State opponent. Ties Cornelissen's six kills were a team-best.
The Beach (7-0) opens a two-game set against King (Tenn.) next Friday. ESPN+ coverage begins at 7 p.m.
