Kana Uchida Named Big West Freshman Of The Week

Uchida had a pair of assists for Long Beach State in their win over the Gauchos.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State defender Kana Uchida was named the Big West Freshman Player of the Week after helping lead the Beach to a commanding 4-1 win at home over UC Santa Barbara in the team's only action last week.
Uchida assisted on two goals in Long Beach State's 4-1 win at George Allen Field while playing sparkling defense. Uchida opened up the action that led to the third goal from Cherrie Cox in the 54th minute, and then delivered a sparkling cross-field entry to Amanda Perez who headed home the fourth goal of the game in the 78th minute.
The redshirt freshman from Urayasu City, Japan played in 85 shutout minutes for LBSU and was subbed out prior to the lone goal from UC Santa Barbara, a consolation goal in the 87th minute.
Uchida joins Brooklyn Antonucci as Long Beach State winners of the Big West Freshman Player of the Week award honorees this season, and is the fourth individual player honored, as Kassandra Ceja and Elysia Laramie were both Offensive Player of the Week winners earlier in the season.
Long Beach State continues Big West play this week with two road contests. The Beach will play at UC Davis on Thursday, September 28th before facing CSU Bakersfield on Sunday, October 1.
