Big West Academic Honors To Air Today

Long Beach State’s Mason Briggs and Ryley Fick will be recognized as the two honorees from the Beach.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Big West's annual presentation celebrating the successes of top -scholar athletes, the Big West Academic Honors, will air today at 1 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
The stories and accomplishments of the 2023 Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year will be featured on ESPN+, Tuesday, August 29 at 1 p.m. PT. Twenty-two individuals were bestowed the honor as two student-athletes from each institution – one male and one female – were distinguished by their schools and The Big West.
Senior Ryley Fick was recognized for her efforts across multiple sports. The Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Year after leading Long Beach State Women's Track and Field to a second consecutive outdoor championship, winning two events in the 3000m Steeplechase and 800m while qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in both events. Fick also holds the second-fastest 6K time in cross country and holds a 3.81 GPA in Dietetics and Food Administration.
Junior Mason Briggs is a two-time First-Team All-American and a regular member of the USA Men's Volleyball International program, competing for the USA this past summer. Helping to guide Long Beach State to back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances, Briggs is a multiple first-team All-Big West selection and holds a 3.50 GPA in Consumer Affairs.
