LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Men's Golf Coach Rob Murray announced the hiring of Marc Gerst on Wednesday afternoon. Gerst joins the Beach staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season.
"Marc brings experience from teaching and coaching at an elite-level club at the University of Texas Golf Club," said Murray. "Marc will be a great resource for our student-athletes and help guide them to the top of the college game. Marc's overall passion for the game really stood out in our search. I'm excited to welcome him to the Long Beach State family."
Gerst is a recent graduate of Aquinas College in Grand Rapid, Mich., where he was a member of the men's golf team. He earned his Bachelor's of Science in business administration, and is currently working on his Level 1 classification via PGA America.
He comes to Long Beach State after spending the last year as an assistant golf professional at the University of Texas Golf Club where he provided golf instruction and coaching to players of all skill levels. During that time, he helped develop and implement customized training programs to improve players' skills, while focusing on swing mechanics, course management, and mental game strategies.
Gerst also gained experience as a golf professional during his college years as he was an intern at Kent Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich. In that role, he assisted in managing daily golf operations.
