
Ian Gilligan Named to 2023 NCAA Division I PING All-Region Team

NORMAN, Okla. – The NCAA Division I PING All-Region honorees were announced by the GCAA on Saturday and Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan was one of 25 men's golfers to represent the West Region. Players across all six regions earned All-Region honors in 2023.
Gilligan, who is ranked No. 14 nationally, had a stellar sophomore season in which he averaged an impressive 68.88 stroke average to set the new LBSU program record in modern history. The Reno, Nev., native finished the year winning four individual tournament titles, while leading the Beach to two team victories.
The 2023 Big West Golfer of the Year and First Team All-Big West selection was Long Beach State's top finisher in 10 events this season. He posted nine Top 10 finishes and was named Big West Golfer of the Month on three separate occasions.
Gilligan fired a career-best 61 in the first round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate to set a new course record. Overall, he shot a career-low 199, 17-under par performance to tie the Long Beach State low 54-hole score.
Between competing with LBSU at The Big West Championships and the NCAA Las Vegas Regional, Gilligan qualified for the U.S. Open after firing a 66 for 6-under par to top the field at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Gilligan will go on to compete in the U.S. Open final qualifying round on Monday, June 5.
