Jasmine Leovao, Alyssa Waite Claim Top Honors As Big West Announces Postseason Awards

Leovao Freshman of the Year, Waite Coach of the Year as the Beach had three golfers honored.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The 2023 Individual Medalist at the Big West Conference Championship, Jasmine Leovao claimed another honor Tuesday as she was named the Big West Freshman of the Year.
Leovao was the top finisher for the Beach in each of the team's last four tournaments, placing in the Top 10 in each in addition to her first-place finish at the Big West Championship. She is the program's second freshman to earn an invitation to the NCAA postseason, and is the fifth Big West Freshman of the Year from Long Beach State.
Head Coach Alyssa Waite also earned top honors on the year, named the Big West Coach of the Year for the first time. In her second season as the head coach of the Beach, Waite helped the program rise over 40 places into the Top 100 in the Golfstat rankings. Under her leadership, the Beach consistently placed in the Top 5, doing so in nine straight tournaments to finish the year as well as grabbing six Top 3 finishes, the most in school history. Waite's award is the fourth time an LBSU coach has been named the Big West Coach of the Year in the program's 43-year history.
Jasmine Leovao also earned First-Team All-Big West honors, as did Long Beach State veteran Hannah Ko. In every season of her eligibility, Ko has earned All-Big West honors, culminating in this season's first team selection. Ko had the team's lowest stroke average on the year at 73.74, and tied for first place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, one of four podium finishes for the graduate student. Ko placed third overall at the Big West Championship and was in the team's top two finishers in 9 of 10 tournaments on the year.
Twin sister of Jasmine, Janae Leovao also earned All-Big West honors as a freshman. Janae was the team's top finisher on three occasions, including a third-place finish at The Clash at Boulder Creek where she was 6-under par, helping lead the Beach to a program record team round of 279 in Boulder City, Nev. Leovao was one of five golfers named to the All-Big West second team, as the Beach had three golfers in the 11 recognized as first or second team.
