Clarke Godbold, Mason Briggs Garner Big West Player of the Week Honors

Godbold earns his second Big West Offensive Player of the Week award this season, while Briggs picks up his fourth career Defensive Player of the Week honor
IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the Men's Volleyball Weekly awards on Monday afternoon and Long Beach State's Clarke Godbold and Mason Briggs came away with Offensive and Defensive Player of the week honors, respectively.
Godbold earned the honors after leading Long Beach State to a pair of wins over No. 15 CSUN as he hit .529 (41-5-68) and averaged 5.50 points, 5.13 kills, 1.25 digs, and 0.50 blocks per set.
The junior opposite had a career night on Friday at CSUN as he knocked down a career-best 32 kills leading the Beach to an exciting reverse sweep of the Matadors. With his 32-kill performance, Godbold became the first Long Beach State Men's Volleyball player since 2010 to drop 30-plus kills in a single match. That mark is also the new season-best for a Big West player in 2023, and he is now tied fourth nationally for most kills in a single-match in NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball this season.
In addition to his career-high performance on Friday, Godbold hit an impressive .571 (32-4-49), while adding seven digs and a block assist for a career-best 32.5 points. Godbold was efficient with a .421 (9-1-19) attack percentage on Saturday night, with nine kills to go along with three blocks, three digs, and an ace.
Briggs was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career as he anchored the LBSU defense in a pair of conference wins over No. 15 CSUN.The junior libero averaged 3.13 digs per set leading the Beach to their sixth-straight win of the season as they sit in a first-place tie with No. 1 Hawaii heading into the final week of the regular season.
The product out of Valencia, Calif., kicked off the week with a season-high 18 digs in LBSU's reverse sweep of CSUN on the road. Briggs' 18 digs are just one shy of his career-high and rank him in tie for seventh nationally for most digs in a single-match in NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball in 2023. Additionally, he added two assists, and made just one error on 34 receptions.
