BAKERSFIELD, Calif. –
Long Beach State extended its winning streak to 15 as the Beach earned a 52-46 victory over CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night at the Icardo Center.

The Beach (22-7, 17-2 Big West) played the Roadrunners (6-21, 3-16 Big West) in a tough defensive contest. Long Beach State shot 37.5 percent from the field, while CSU Bakersfield shot 31.8 percent in the closely contested match up.

Long Beach State got out to a quick lead taking a 14-6 advantage in the first quarter. However, the Roadrunners outscored LBSU in the second and third quarters, before both teams matched each other for eight points in the fourth. LBSU's early lead was able to sustain the Beach throughout the game as they came away with a six-point victory (52-46).

Kianna Hamilton-Fisher, Patricia Chung, and Tori Harris scored three-straight layups to end the first quarter, giving Long Beach State an eight-point lead (14-6).

A three from Courtney Murphy at 5:17 in the second quarter gave Long Beach State a double-digit lead (26-16). However, the Roadrunners would cut that down to seven (28-21) by halftime.

The Roadrunners managed to cut the Beach's lead down to four on two separate occasions with under two minutes left in the frame, but Harris's layup with just one second on the clock sent the game to the fourth quarter with LBSU leading, 44-38.

The final quarter was a tough defensive showing as neither team shot more than 30 percent from the field and both teams were limited to single digits in the frame. A triple from Harris at 5:27 put Long Beach State up by 14 (52-38), their largest lead of the game. However, CSU Bakersfield would not quit. The Roadrunners managed to chip away at the Beach's lead and whittled it down to six (52-46) by the time the clock expired.

Long Beach State was led by Harris' 15 points, while Malia Bambrick added 10 points, and Ma'Qhi Berry finished with nine. Berry also led the squad with eight rebounds and three assists. Harris, meanwhile, led the team with three steals to go along with five boards.

Van Schaik led Bakersfield with a double-double as she finished the game with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Caldwell added 10 points and six boards to go along with a pair of assists and two steals.

With UC Irvine defeating UC Riverside, 56-45, both LBSU and UCI are in must-win situations on Saturday, March 4. A win for Long Beach clinches the Big West Regular Season Title and a No. 1 seed in The Big West Championship. But a Beach loss and an Anteaters win, would give Irvine the title and top seed.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Saturday, March 4 as the Beach host UC Davis in the final regular season game of the season. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. A senior day celebration will follow the contest.
