Long Beach State Falls to UC Davis, 65-56, on Senior Day

Senior Tori Harris led a quartet of double-figure scorers with 13 points in the setback

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team suffered a 65-56 loss to UC Davis on the final day of the regular season.
The loss snaps the Beach's (22-8, 17-3 Big West) 15-game winning streak, while UC Davis improves to 16-13 overall and 12-7 in The Big West.
Long Beach State will now head into The Big West Championships as the No. 2 seed and will play on Wednesday, March 8 at 6 p.m. The Beach will play the winner of the No. 7/No. 10 seed match up.
The Beach got off to a slow start as UC Davis went on an 11-0 run in the first quarter to take a 16-5 lead. Kianna Hamilton-Fisher made a pair of layups in the final 2:21 as Long Beach State made it a 16-9 game in favor of the Aggies at the end of the frame.
Long Beach State chipped away at UC Davis' lead in the second quarter. The Beach went on a 6-0 run and after a driving layup from Tori Harris, made it a three-point game (27-24) with 2:04 left to play. By halftime, Davis had pushed its lead back up to five (29-24).
The third quarter saw LBSU outscore UC Davis, 14-10, as the Beach connected on 5-of-12 field goals to shoot 41.7 percent from the field. The Beach closed the frame on a 10-0 run to make it a one-point game (39-38) heading into the fourth quarter.
The Beach took their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter as Malia Bambrick opened the frame with a jumper to put LBSU up 40-39. Long Beach State led by as many as four on two separate. However, the Aggies were quick to counter and even things back up at 46-all. The quarter would see two more ties before UC Davis went up 53-51 and held the lead the rest of the way. The Aggies used a 7-0 run and led by as many as 10 (64-54) with less than a minute to play, before handing the Beach their first loss since January 7.
Harris led the Beach with 13 points and six rebounds, while Ma'Qhi Berry, Courtney Murphy, and Hamilton-Fisher each recorded 10 points. Berry led the team with four assists and two steals to go along with four rebounds.
UC Davis was led by Tova Sabel's 25-point performance, while Evanne Turner added 17 points. Tess Sussman finished the game with nine rebounds, eight points, three steals, and two assists, while Campbell Gray dished out four assists.
Following the game, Long Beach State recognized its four seniors in Murphy, Bambrick, Harris, Lauren Green, and Berry.
