Winning Streak Snapped As Long Beach State Falls To CSUN

Long Beach State’s six-game winning streak ended in loss to the Matadors.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's six-game winning streak came to an end Saturday as CSUN came into the Walter Pyramid and grabbed an 84-68 win.
With the win, CSUN (11-3, 2-0 Big West) stays atop the Big West standings while the Long Beach State (9-5, 1-1 Big West) lost for the first time this season at home. The Matadors were led by Dionte Bostick who finished with 21 points as well as a double-double from Keonte Jones with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jones' 10 boards helped the Matadors take a 43-33 edge on the glass along with 24 assists which helped CSUN steal the win.
A Jadon Jones three put the Beach on top early, and Long Beach State would lead over the majority of the first ten minutes. The first half would feature 13 lead changes and 11 ties as the teams battled back and forth. Marcus Tsohonis gave the Beach a 37-35 lead with a floater with just over three minutes remaining, but CSUN closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 43-37 lead into the locker rooms.
That momentum continued for CSUN in the start of the second half, as the Matadors opened on a 4-0 run and outscored the Beach 19-8 to start the period and held a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest.
Tsohonis led Long Beach State with 17 points, while Aboubacar Traore finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Long Beach State will have another split week of conference play next week, opening the new year Thursday at Cal Poly before hosting UC Riverside on Saturday.
