
Beach Track and Field Welcomes Seven Jumpers

The incoming recruiting class is made up of four men and three women
LONG BEACH, Calif.—This week, we have looked at the newcomers to the Long Beach State Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field program. We conclude the previews as The Beach welcomes seven new Jumpers to the program for the upcoming 2024 campaign.
Men's Newcomers
TJ Funches I Senior I Birmingham, Ala. I Auburn I Helena HS
Funches transferred to Long Beach State from Auburn with one season of indoor and outdoor eligibility remaining. He competed in the high jump for three indoor and outdoor seasons with the Tigers. Funches was a two-time outdoor NCAA Regional Qualifier in the high jump. His personal best in the high jump is 7-0 1/4. Funches was a two-time Athletic Directors Honor Roll member and an SEC Academic Team selection. He competed for four years in track and field at Helena High School, where he won the Alabama state championship in the high jump.
Daniel Palacio I Senior I Palmdale, Calif. I Cal State Fullerton I Quartz HS
Palacio joins Long Beach State after competing for three seasons at Cal State Fullerton in the pole vault. He set a personal best at the 2022 Big West Championships with a clearance of 16-11, finishing as the Big West runner-up and earning All-Big West honors. He repeated as an All-Big West pole vaulter with a third-place finish at the 2023 Big West Championships. A two-time outdoor NCAA West Regional qualifier in the pole vault, he won the pole vault (16-10 3/4) at the 2022 Mt. SAC Relays. He was the runner-up at the 2023 MPSF Championships in the pole vault with a leap of 16-11. Palacio finished third in the pole vault at the 2022 MPSF Championships (15-11 3/4).
Glen Quayle I Sophomore I Ramsey, Isle of Man I Northern State I Ramsey Grammar School
Quayle comes to Long Beach State after two seasons of indoor track action at NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.). His personal best in the pole vault is 16-6. Quayle placed third at the 2022 NSIC Outdoor Championships in the pole vault (16-4) and finished second at the 2023 NSIC Indoor championship (15-11 3/4). Quayle competed in the pole vault out of high school in addition to the Isle of Man English Schools team and the Leicestershire English Schools Team.
Aidan Turner I Freshman I Delta, B.C. I South Delta Secondary School
Turner was a multi-event junior Canadian champion while competing in the Decathlon. He got off to a strong start, breaking the U16 British Columbia mark in the Pole Vault with a four-meter clearance. Turner set the U18 BC mark in the Decathlon as a sophomore. He reset that record as a junior in 2022 while winning the U20 national championship in the pole vault. As a senior, Turner was the U20 Canadian national champion in the long jump. Turner was a four-year Honor Roll and President's List honoree at South Delta Secondary School.
Women's Newcomers
Alexa Camacho I Junior I Roseville, Calif. I American River College I Whitney HS
Camacho competed for two seasons of track and field and one in cross country at American River College. She qualified for the CCCAA championships in four events as a sophomore:
Jenelle Hurley I Junior I Grants Pass, Ore. I Western Oregon I Hidden Valley HS
Hurley comes to Long Beach State as a grad transfer with two years of eligibility remaining after competing for two seasons at Division II Western Oregon. She was named the GNAC Female Field Athlete of the Meet at the 2022 championships, earning 30 points while winning the heptathlon with a PR of 4821. Hurley also won the Long Jump at that championship and set a P.R. in the 400m hurdles.
She broke the school record while claiming the GNAC indoor championship in the pentathlon with a score of 3585. Hurley won the 2023 GNAC Heptathlon with a score of 4803. Her bests are 14.55 in the 100m Hurdles, 5-5 1/4 in the High Jump, and 19-0 in the Long Jump. She earned All-League honors in three sports (basketball, track and field, and volleyball) for Hidden Valley High School.
Tori Plummer I Senior I Moorpark, Calif. I Univ. of New Mexico I Moorpark HS
Plummer comes to Long Beach State after spending three years at the University of New Mexico. She took eighth place in her first competitive indoor pentathlon at the 2022 Mountain West Championships (3536). She set a heptathlon PR of 4498 at that event and reset her collegiate bests in the High Jump (5-7), Long Jump (17-7), and 100m Hurdles (14.93). Plummer was a two-time Mountain West Academic All-Conference selection.
Plummer was a two-sport athlete at Moorpark High School, competing in volleyball and track and field. She ended her prep career as the school record holder in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.17. Plummer won four straight High Jump league championships at Moorpark and was the 2016 USATF Junior Champion in the High Jump with a personal best of 5-8.
