A sophomore, Cox becomes the fifth player from LBSU named Big West Offensive Player of the Year.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sophomore Cherrie Cox was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year, highlighting seven players from Long Beach State who were recognized in the postseason honors announced Saturday by the Big West Conference.

Cox led the conference with 13 goals over the regular season, five more than the closest competitor in the league, teammate Elysia Laramie. Ranking in the nation's Top 10 in scoring, Cox also contributed four assists on the season, totaling 30 points through 19 games. She is tied for fourth all-time in single-season goals at the Beach, and is already in the Top 10 in career goals scored before completing her second season with Long Beach State.

The sophomore took home first-team all-conference honors as well, joined by junior Maddy Perez and sophomore Makayla Demelo. One of the conference's best defenders, Perez brought home first-team All-Big West honors for the third straight season. For the third straight year, Perez led LBSU in minutes played, and contributed a goal and two assists across 1694 minutes this season. Just behind her in third place in minutes for LBSU in 2023 was Demelo. In her first season with the Beach, Demelo played every game in the midfield for the top scoring offense in the league, scoring one goal with four assists over 1508 minutes.

The Beach had two players on the second team. Senior Elysia Laramie was all-conference for the second time, coming in second in the Big West behind only Cox with eight goals on the year while sharing the team lead with six assists. Defender Brooklyn Antonucci held the other half of that lead, chipping in on six goals while playing 1600 minutes in defense while starting 18 games as a true freshman. Antonucci was one of two freshman on the first or second teams, and also earned All-Freshman Team honors for her breakout campaign.

Long Beach State goalkeeper Zora Standifer earned Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season. Standifer recorded three shutouts this season, and finished with 59 saves and a GAA of 1.15.

Kana Uchida joined Antonucci in All-Freshman Team honors. The redshirt freshman from Japan played in 1380 minutes on the back line, contributing three assists and starting in 18 games in her first competitive season.

Long Beach State will begin their postseason this Sunday at home, hosting UC Irvine at George Allen Field where LBSU is unbeaten since the opening day of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.

Tickets are available online through the Long Beach State Box Office. As Sunday's game is a Big West Conference event, all fans, including season-ticket holders will need to purchase tickets.
