Long Beach State Releases 2024 Men’s Volleyball Schedule

The Beach will host 17 matches and face six nationally-ranked opponents on their journey back to the Final Four

LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The Long Beach State Men's Volleyball team has announced its 2024 schedule which features 17 home matches, including a non-conference tournament. The Beach, which finished 2023 ranked No. 4, will face half-a-dozen nationally-ranked opponents from a year ago, including the defending NCAA National Champions and Runner Up, as well as four-of-the-seven 2023 NCAA Tournament teams. The season will culminate with Long Beach State hosting the NCAA Tournament on April 30, May 2, and May 4 inside the Walter Pyramid.

Fans will get their first look at the Beach in an exhibition tournament against Alberta on Sunday, Dec. 31 in the Walter Pyramid. The tournament begins at 10 a.m., with the last match of the day slated to start at 4 p.m.

Long Beach State officially kicks off the 2024 campaign on Friday, January 12 against Long Island at the Walter Pyramid. The Sharks, which finished the 2023 season receiving votes, will face the Beach at 7 p.m. The next day (Jan. 13), LBSU will welcome Saint Francis (Pa.) to the 'Mid for a 7 p.m. matchup.

The Beach will hit the road as they head to the east coast to face Merrimack on Wednesday, January 17 in North Andover, Mass., at 4 p.m. From there, Long Beach State will travel to Newark, N.J., to compete in the NJIT Tournament. The tournament begins Friday, January 19 against the host Highlanders, and will wrap up Saturday, January 20 against George Mason.

LBSU returns home to the Pyramid for a five-match homestand which starts with Pepperdine on Friday, January 26. The Waves are coming off of a season in which they concluded the year ranked 10th in the AVCA Poll. Long Beach State will then face Concordia on Saturday, January 27, before hosing King, which finished 2023 ranked 15th, on February 2 and 3. A year ago, the Tornado earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they fell in the Opening Round to Ohio State, 3-0.

Long Beach State will conclude its five-match homestand against the defending NCAA National Champion UCLA Bruins on Friday, February 9. The Beach and the Bruins will go head-to-head the next night (Feb. 10) in Los Angeles, Calif., in a highly anticipated local rivalry match.

The Beach will host a non-conference tournament in mid-February as they welcome Central State, Edward Waters, and UC San Diego to the Walter Pyramid. The tournament will open with UCSD and Central State on Thursday, February 15. Friday, February 16 will feature a doubleheader with the Tritons going up against Edward Waters at 5 p.m., before the Beach face Central State at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, February 17 with LBSU and Edward Waters at 7 p.m.

The non-conference season will come to a close with two tough opponents in Lewis and Penn State. The Beach will go up against the Flyers, which finished the 2023 season receiving votes, on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The next weekend, LBSU will face No. 3 Penn State on Friday, March 1. The Nittany Lions are coming off a successful 2023 campaign in which they advanced to the NCAA Final Four.

The Big West season begins Friday, March 8 with Long Beach State hosting UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. The Gauchos had a solid 2023 as they finished the year receiving votes in the AVCA Poll. LBSU and UCSB will go head-to-head in Santa Barbara, on Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m.

In another marquee matchup at the Walter Pyramid, Long Beach State will host conference foe Hawaii on March 15 and 16. The Bows concluded the season ranked No. 2 after finishing as the runner up in the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

Following the Hawaii matches, the Beach will host UC San Diego on Friday, March 29, before facing the Tritons in San Diego on Saturday, March 30. LBSU will then host CSUN on Friday, April 5 in Long Beach and before traveling to Northridge for a Saturday, April 6 contest. The Matadors ended the 2023 season receiving votes in the AVCA Poll.

Long Beach State will conclude the regular season against No. 5 UC Irvine in the Black and Blue Rivalry. The Beach and the Anteaters will face off on Friday, April 12 at the Bren Events Center, before wrapping up Big West action in Long Beach, Calif. on Saturday, April 13.

The 2024 Big West Championship will be held April 18-20 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Long Beach State will host the 2024 NCAA Tournament at the Walter Pyramid with the Opening Round matches on Tuesday, April 30, the Final Four on Thursday, May 2, and the National Championship match on Saturday, May 4.

Current season ticket holders should be on the lookout for a renewal email if they still have a balance due on their tickets.

Those looking to purchase season tickets, which will include priority on the 2024 NCAA Tournament, can place a $50 per seat deposit HERE and will have first priority on tickets after the renewal deadline in November.
