Cecil is a Long Beach State graduate and a former student-athlete with the softball program.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is excited to welcome Cameron Cecil to its staff as the new head of Student-Athlete Development at Long Beach State, a role that has a significant daily cooperation and impact with all of Long Beach State's nearly 400 student-athletes.

Cecil will serve as the lead of one of the most vital groups in the athletic department, helping to guide the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. As the coordinator, Cecil will work closely with student-athlete leadership as well as coaches and administration to help build and maintain an outstanding environment to help best create positive student-athlete experiences.

Cecil will also coordinate with the Bickerstaff Academic Center and Division of Student Affairs to provide resources to support our student-athletes outside of competition. Working with Long Beach State coaches and administration, Cecil will also develop and implement community service, civic engagement and campus involvement opportunities to help create a holistic college experience for Beach student-athletes.

"Cameron's journey from student-athlete to mentor showcases the transformative power of this role, and her commitment to our student-athletes' success is what made her the ideal addition to our team," noted Senior Associate Athletic Director and SWA, Tiffany Edlin.

Cecil transferred to Long Beach State prior to the 2021 season and played softball for three seasons with Long Beach State. Earning a bachelor's degree after the 2022 season, Cecil returned for her senior season as a graduate student, helping Long Beach State win a second Big West title in her three seasons with the Beach.

During her time as a student-athlete, Cecil interned with the Athletic Communications department and also worked as a committed representative of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, working directly with prior Student-Athlete Development coordinators in event planning, community building and serving as a voice for student-athlete concerns.

"I very much look forward to being in the position to foster support for our student-athletes and provide the resources for them to develop and build connections," said Cecil. "Having recently been in their shoes, I have the unique advantage of understanding what will help them grow into strong leaders and well-rounded individuals here on campus. I am beyond thrilled to be in this role, and I am excited to get started."
