Sotiris Siapanis leads Long Beach with 18 kills, while the Beach hit .328 in the five-set victory

HAMILTON, Ontario – No. 3 Long Beach State battled McMaster in another five-set exhibition match on Saturday afternoon. The Beach came out with a reverse sweep winning by set scores of 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 16-14 in the closely contested match at Burridge Arena in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
After dropping the first two sets, Long Beach State fought back and showed their resiliency as they were led by Sotiris Siapanis' 18 kills, while Clarke Godbold added 12, and Skylar Varga contributed 11.
Siapanis is a sophomore transfer from Ohio State who has hit the court for the Beach and made an immediate impact starting at outside and totaling 31 kills over two matches at the North America Challenge.
Godbold hit .296, while also posting five total blocks, four digs, three assists, and an ace, to go along with his 12 kills.
Varga, a native of Muenster, Saskatchewan, came off the bench for the Beach and tallied 11 kills on a .208 clip, while adding three digs, one solo block, an assist, and an ace.
Redshirt junior setter Aidan Knipe controlled the pace of the match for Long Beach State distributing 49 assists and piloting the team to a .328 attack percentage. He also added five digs and a block assist.
At blocking defense, Simon Torwie led the way putting up six total blocks at the net for the Beach.
Meanwhile in the backcourt, junior libero Mason Briggs turned in another solid passing performance with 21 digs, while adding five assists.
The Beach and the Marauders showed how evenly matched they were as they battled each other through a total of 34 ties and 10 lead changes. Both top-ranked teams in their respective countries, Long Beach State and McMaster played each other through four deuce sets.
The Marauders received a 22-kill showing from Sam Cooper who hit .372 in the match, while also recording three digs, three aces, and two blocks. Setter Robbie Fujisawa registered 44 assists and six digs, while Mateusz Wlodarski notched a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. He posted four blocks in the match, while hitting .348.
