LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team extended their winning streak to five after earning a 57-54 win over Cal Poly on Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (12-7, 7-2 Big West) shot 46.9 percent from the field and scored 19 points off turnovers as they took an early lead over the Mustangs (5-12, 2-7 Big West) and never trailed. Long Beach State led by as many as 12 points in the game, but Cal Poly just wouldn't go away as they managed to cut the Beach's lead down to one on several occasions. However, LBSU showed their determination and found a way to win.

Kianna Hamilton-Fisher led the Beach with 15 points on the night, while adding six assists, four rebounds, and two blocks. Ma'Qhi Berry and Malia Bambrick each registered 10 points in the game. Berry also contributed five assists, three boards, and three steals.

Tori Harris led the Beach in rebounding with five boards to go along with six points, two assists and one steal. Meanwhile, Lauren Green and Courtney Murphy each added half a dozen points.

Long Beach State started the game off strong as they used a 7-0 run to open up a 12-point lead (23-11) as Cal Poly called a timeout at 2:04. The Beach held a 10-point advantage (23-13) at the end of the first quarter as they shot 64.3 percent (9-14) from the field and 60.0 percent (3-5) from long distance in the frame.

The Beach's early and commanding lead came in handy as Cal Poly bounced back in the second quarter. The Mustangs connected on 5-of-10 field goals and held Long Beach State to just eight points in the game as they cut LBSU's lead down to five (31-26) at halftime.

Cal Poly out-shot Long Beach State in the third quarter (40.0 percent – 33.3 percent) and edge the Beach in scoring (13-12). However, Long Beach never let Cal Poly come closer than three (31-28) in the frame as the Beach held a 43-39 edge over the Mustangs heading into the fourth quarter.

The closely contested game kept fans on their feet as the Mustangs tallied six-straight points to make it a one-point game (50-49) with 4:41 remaining. The remainder of the quarter, LBSU never led by more than four (53-49) and with less than one minute remaining, Cal Poly pulled within one (55-54) once again. However, a free throw from Berry put LBSU back on top by two, before Hamilton-Fisher sunk the back-end of a pair of free throws to give the Beach a three-point lead (57-54) with just 19.0 seconds left to play. With less than a second remaining, Berry made a key deflection to keep Cal Poly off the board and secure the Long Beach State win.

Oumou Toure led the Mustangs in scoring with 18 points as she hit 5-of-11 field goals and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. She also added four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Sydney Bourland finished the game with seven rebounds to go along with five points and five assists, while Annika Shah added nine points, three rebounds, and three assists for Cal Poly.

Long Beach State will head up to Davis, Calif., to take on UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
