Tsohonis broke the Long Beach State single-game record with 46 points in a triple overtime win at UC San Diego.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Marcus Tsohonis was named the Big West Player of the Week after leading Long Beach State Men's Basketball to a pair of wins, including a record-breaking performance in an epic triple overtime win at UC San Diego.
In an instant classic on Saturday, Long Beach State rallied to defeat UC San Diego 112-110 in triple overtime on the road in La Jolla, Calif. That effort came with just eight players suited for the contest due to myriad injuries, the minimum allowable under Big West bylaws.
Picking up the slack, Tsohonis played all but 52 seconds of the 55 minutes of the triple overtime win, ultimately scoring 46 points to lead Long Beach State to the victory. Tsohonis made three 3-pointers, 13 free throws, and also added six rebounds and four assists in the victory.
The 46 points are the most scored in one game in the nation this season, and broke a school record shared by LBSU legends Ed Ratleff and Gabe Levin who each scored 45 points in a game.
It wasn't just a one-game effort for Tsohonis, however, who was the leading scorer in Long Beach State's Thursday game as well, scoring 17 points off of the bench to lead Long Beach State to a 72-67 win over Cal State Fullerton inside the Walter Pyramid.
Tsohonis is the first weekly award winner for Long Beach State Men's Basketball this season.
