Ramirez, Harrison Selected on Day Two of MLB Draft

The Dirtbags had a pair of pitchers taken in the 2022 MLB Draft with Luis Ramirez going in the seventh round and Devereaux Harrison going in the ninth round.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – A pair of Long Beach State right-handed pitchers had their names called on day two of the MLB Draft on Monday. Luis Ramirez went in the seventh round to the Texas Rangers while Devereaux Harrison was selected in the ninth round by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ramirez battled a shoulder injury throughout all of the 2022 season, but still posted a 2.14 ERA in 33.2 innings pitched. He caught a lot of national attention on Opening Day with six no-hit innings against the 2021 National Champion Mississippi State Bulldogs earning National Pitcher of the Week. For the season, he earned also earned two Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.
A 2020 Collegiate Baseball All-American, he ranks eighth in Dirtbags history with a career 8.83 K/9. In 22 starts at Long Beach State, he posted an 8-5 record with a 3.38 ERA. He struck out 123 batters in 125.1 career innings.
The East LA native is the seventh Dirtbag to be drafted by the Texas Rangers and first since the 2017 draft.
Harrison struggled at times in 2022, but still recorded 32 strikeouts in 33.2 innings last year. Primarily a high-leverage reliever, the Vacaville native also made a pair of starts including a career-high 5.1 innings at CSUN. His dominant freshman campaign earned him 2021 Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year as well as Freshman All-American honors and an All-West Region selection.
For his career, he posted a 3.42 ERA in 81.2 total innings while striking out 92 opposing hitters. He ranks tied for eighth all-time with 15 career saves and the most for a Dirtbag since 2018.
The Vacaville native becomes the sixth Dirtbag draftee for the Toronto Blue Jays and is also the first since the 2017 draft.
With the two selections today, the Dirtbags have now had at least one top ten round pick in nine of the last 10 years and continue their streak of at least two draftees every year since 1988.
