LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The No. 2 Long Beach State Men's Volleyball team used a complete team effort, as 15 players saw action on the court, in the 3-0 [25-18, 25-14, 25-15] sweep of Long Island University on Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (10-2) hit a season-best .558 with sophomore setter Aidan Knipe piloting the offense over the Sharks (4-14) in straight sets.

LIU, which is in its first-ever season of NCAA men's volleyball, was held to a mere .062 attack percentage as the Long Beach State defense put up 11.5 total team blocks. The Beach were led at the net by Marc Moody's six block assists.

Long Beach State and Long Island began the match with a closely contested first set that saw six early ties. With the match tied 11-11, Spencer Olivier's service run of five-straight points highlighted by three kills from Alex Nikolov gave the Beach the kick-start it needed. Leading 16-11, the Beach controlled the rest of the set and cruised to a 25-18 win.

In the second set, the Beach offense heated up as they hit .650 in the frame knocking down 13 kills on 20 errorless swings. Even more impressive, LBSU owned a perfect sideout percentage as Long Beach rolled to a 25-14 victory.

By the third set, the Beach were leading two sets to none, and after a commanding second set win over LIU, LBSU sent a new lineup onto the court as sophomore outside hitter Nathan Harlan, sophomore middle blocker Simon Torwie, and redshirt libero Sebastian Rodriguez joined Knipe, Moody, Nikolov, and sophomore opposite Clarke Godbold.

The Beach quickly took a 6-1 lead and never looked back as they hit a whopping .733 with 12 kills on 15 attempts with just one error. LBSU would go on to win the third and final set by 10 points (25-15).

Nikolov led the Beach with 12 kills on a .600 attack percentage (12-0-20). He also served up four service aces to go along with three blocks, two digs, and one assist. Godbold also recorded double-figures with 10 kills on a .750 hitting percentage (10-1-12), while putting up four blocks.

In the backcourt, sophomore libero Mason Briggs led the way with seven digs, while Knipe and Olivier each posted five digs.

Throughout the match, the Beach also got solid outings from Dane Hillis, Nato Dickinson, Aidan Grosz, Eric Beebe, and Calvin Sanborn. The contest marked the collegiate debut from Gorsz.

LIU was led by Caden Satterfield's nine kills, four digs, one ace, and one assist, while setter Luca Holanda added 18 assists.

Long Beach State will kick off Big West Conference action on Thursday, March 10 at UC Irvine at 7 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
