Long Beach State To Make Ninth Postseason NIT Appearance

Long Beach State earned an automatic bid after winning the outright Big West Conference regular season championship.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will make the program's ninth appearance in the postseason NIT, hitting the road to play at BYU in the first round of the 32- team tournament.
Traditionally featuring the best teams in the country outside of the NCAA Tournament, Long Beach State will open up the competition on the road at BYU, playing on Wednesday, March 16 inside of the Marriott Center with live coverage provided by ESPN+.
The Beach and the Cougars will match up for the 12th time in program history. The programs most recently split a home-and-home series over the course of the 2014 and 2015 seasons, with each team winning the home meeting. The teams are also meeting for the second time in the postseason, with Long Beach State defeating BYU in the first round of the 1972 NCAA Tournament.
Long Beach State is making its ninth NIT appearance. The Beach last played in the NIT following the 2015-16 season, falling in the first round on the road at Washington 107-102.
