HENDERSON, Nev. –
Long Beach State was unable to overcome a slow start as the No. 3 seed Beach dropped a 55-45 decision to No. 6 seed UC Davis on Wednesday night at The Dollar Loan Center in the Quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament.

Long Beach State (19-8) opened the game with a pair of early buckets from Justina King and Ma'Qhi Berry, but a 12-2 UC Davis (15-12) run gave the Aggies a lead it would not relinquish. Davis held a 15-8 lead over Long Beach at the end of the first quarter. The Aggies extended their lead up to double digits in the second quarter before taking a 32-35 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Beach rallied in the third quarter and cut the Aggies' lead down to two (36-34) on a three from Kianna Hamilton-Fisher with 3:03 on the clock. But UC Davis would push its lead back up to seven (43-36) by the end of the frame.

The fourth quarter was a slow start for both teams as neither scored until 5:45 when UC Davis' Cierra Hall made a layup to put the Aggies up by nine (45-36). From there, the Beach called a timeout to regroup and managed to cut Davis' lead down to five (48-43) with 2:04 on the clock after a fast break, driving layup from King. However, that's as close as Long Beach State would get as UC Davis went back up by double-figures to win 55-45.

Senior forward Maddi Utti led Long Beach State with 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals. King finished the game with 12 points, four board, and two assists, while Berry posted five points, two blocks, and two steals.

UC Davis was led by Evanne Turner's 19-point performance, while Sydney Burns added nine points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Hall added 14 points to go along with eight boards, three steals, and two assists.
