Five newcomers have joined the Beach as External Relations, Event Operations return to full staffing.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Athletics has been hard at work filling support staff positions, and has filled a large number of vacancies and new positions in recent weeks.
Among the most recent hires is Corie Apodaca, who joins the marketing staff as an Associate Director. Apodaca comes to the Beach with high-level Division I experience, working with New Mexico and Syracuse. Apodaca worked primarily with the soccer programs at Syracuse while completing her Master's Degree from Kansas, and following her completion of that program was hired as an assistant director at New Mexico. While in Albuquerque, Apodaca worked with Women's Volleyball and Women's Basketball, seeing massive attendance growth while also creating strong growth in social media engagement among institutional accounts under her management.
The marketing staff also gained a third full-time member for the first time in nearly a decade, as Juliana Hernandez was promoted internally and will now work as a marketing coordinator. Hernandez played a large part in maintaining continuity during the hiring process for new Assistant Athletics Director of Marketing Richard Loza as well as Apodaca. She will continue her expanded role within the athletics department, providing marketing support for Men's Basketball, Men's Volleyball and other sports.
The Beach Vision unit has returned to full strength as well with the hiring of Dimitris Papakosmas. Papakosmas has an extensive background of content creation, working with TravisMathew and The Ringer among other prominent local companies to create video content. That will be his primary role with Long Beach State Athletics as well, collaborating with Athletics Marketing and Communications to drive engagement and continue to support a new generation of student-athletes in innovative ways.
Long Beach State's donor outreach and revenue generation efforts will get a lift with the hiring of Carter Magee as the new Director of Annual Giving. A critical area of development that will be getting greater focus with this hire, Magee has a proven track record, helping to found the Charger Athletic Club during a stint at Cypress College Athletics, soliciting over $10,000 in gifts for the new program that launched in 2021. Magee will supervise Long Beach State annual giving efforts and help to grow the donor base within the Beach Athletic Club but also work as an advocate and liaison with all who support Long Beach State Athletics.
In event operations, Brett Billet has been hired to fill the absence left by Leticia Gomez, who has taken another position within the Athletics Department in financial services. Billet most recently spent three years working at the University of Michigan in their Recreational Sports department, supervising facilities, staff and scheduling for intramural competitions, leagues and tournaments throughout the year. Billet will work with Gomez and Marshall Welch to provide facilities and operations support for all of Long Beach State's sports.
Veteran athletic communications director Roger Kirk was also given new responsibilities, and will now oversee Beach Vision and serve as the executive producer of Long Beach State's ESPN+ live broadcasts in addition to his duties as the director of strategic communications for the department. In line with those duties, Kirk was promoted to Associate Athletics Director of Communications and Broadcast.
