Long Beach State Falls to No. 24 Baylor on the Road

WACO, Texas – The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team closed out non-conference action on the road at No. 24 Baylor, and despite having three players score in double-figures, fell to the Beats, 73-52 on Wednesday at the Ferrell Center.
The Beach (5-5), started the game out strong, but couldn't overcome a strong Bears (9-3) team that shot 56.0 percent from the field. Baylor used an early 10-0 run to take a quick 10-2 lead over Long Beach State that the hosts would not relinquish. The Bears led the rest of the game, despite the Beach's strong showing. LBSU managed to keep the game close in the first half as the Beach were down by 11 (43-32) at halftime.
Long Beach State came out of the locker room and scored five quick points to cut Baylor's lead to six (43-37), but the Bears would go on a run of their own taking a 53-39 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the final 10 minutes of action, Baylor outscored the Beach, 20-13 and used another 10-0 run as the Bears led by as many as 26 (73-47), before LBSU cut the lead down 21 (73-52).
Tori Harris led the Beach with 14 points as she shot 50.0 percent (5-10) from the field, while Ma'Qhi Berry and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher each added 10 points. Berry, an Irving, Texas native, came back to her home state and had quite a game. In addition to scoring 10 points on 57.1 percent shooting (4-7), she also dished out seven assists, to go along with five rebounds, and four steals.
Baylor was led by Caitlin Bickle who finished with 17 points, while Sarah Andrews concluded the game with a double-double tallying 14 assists and 12 rebounds. She also added nine points as she was one point shy of a triple-double. Ja'Mee Asberry and Bella Fontleroy rounded out the Bears' double-digit scorers with 11 points each.
Long Beach State kicks off Big West action on Thursday, Dec. 29 at UC San Diego. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
