
Beach Falls in Big West Championship Match to UC Irvine

Long Beach State Women’s Soccer had their season come to an end in the finals of The Big West Championships.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Soccer had their season come to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling to UC Irvine in the finals of the Big West Championships. The Beach finish the 2022 season with an 8-7-6 overall record.
Lena Silano registered the first shot of the day, but UC Irvine dominated the first half overall. Their first of three goals came in the eighth minute from Erin Covey after a corner kick.
The Anteaters added another score in the 35th minute off a header from Suus de Baker on another corner kick. Seven minutes later, Autumn Thompkins skipped one in near post from a long throw in to make it 3-0 going into halftime.
Long Beach had a few good chances in the second half with a pair of shots on goal from Elysia Laramie and Alyssa Reyes, but nothing came to fruition as LBSU fell 3-0 and UC Irvine claimed their second consecutive Big West Tournament trophy.
The Beach finish their season as the conference's leading offense with their 106 total points ranking as the fourth most in program history. The 38 goals this year is tied for fourth most in a single-season in program history. They also tied the longest unbeaten streak with eight consecutive matches going from September 18 through October 20.
