Long Beach State Unveils the 2023 Men’s Volleyball Schedule

The Beach play 13 matches inside the Walter Pyramid including UCLA, USC, and Ball State in non-conference action

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Heading into his 20th season at the helm of the Long Beach State Men's Volleyball program, Head Coach Alan Knipe has announced the 2023 schedule, which features 13 home matches and nine contests against nationally ranked opponents.

The Beach will kick off the 2023 season at home on Friday, Jan. 13 when they host King of the Conference Carolinas before hosting Lindenwood of the MIVA on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Long Beach will travel east to take on Long Island at the George Mason Tournament in Fairfax, Va., on Friday, Jan. 20. The Beach will then face tournament host, George Mason, on Saturday, Jan. 21. Following their matches in Virginia, LBSU will take on Penn State in University Park, Pa., on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Penn State, which finished the 2022 season ranked sixth nationally, will be the Beach's first nationally ranked challenge of the 2023 season.

Following their road swing on the east, the Beach will return home to host No. 12 Loyola Chicago on Friday, Feb. 3. Long Beach State will then take on No. 4 UCLA in a home-and-home series, which will take place in Westwood on Thursday, Feb. 9 and at the Walter Pyramid on Friday, Feb. 10.

The Beach will continue their homestand with NJIT on Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18, followed by Concordia on Friday, Feb. 24. Long Beach will wrap up their five home contest run with No. 3 Ball State on Friday, March 3.

Big West action will begin on Friday, March 10 as Long Beach State takes on No. 8 UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif., before facing the Gauchos in Long Beach, Calif., on Saturday, March 11. From there, LBSU will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to take on No. 1 and defending National Champion Hawaii on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18.

LBSU will come back to southern California to play No. 7 USC in a home-and-home series. The Beach and the Trojans will meet at the Walter Pyramid on Friday, March 24, before playing each other in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday, March 25.

The Beach will resume Big West play against UC San Diego as LBSU and UCSD play each other in La Jolla, Calif., on Friday, March 31 before squaring off in Long Beach, Calif., on Saturday, April 1.

Long Beach State will close out the regular season with matches against CSUN and No. 13 UC Irvine. The Beach and the Matadors will play each other in Northridge, Calif., on Friday, April 7 before facing off in Long Beach, Calif., on Saturday, April 8. The Beach will wrap up the regular season against the Anteaters playing in their final home regular season match on Friday, April 14, and closing the regular season in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday, April 15.

The Big West Championships will be held in Irvine, Calif., this year from April 20-April 22.

The NCAA Championships, hosted by George Mason, will take place on Thursday, May 4 and Saturday, May 6 at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va.
