Cindy Masner Day set for October 15, with a ceremony at the 7 p.m. women’s volleyball match
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is excited to honor Cindy Masner at the Pointe on Saturday, October 15 at 5 p.m., prior to the Women's Volleyball match against UC Irvine in an invite-only event. The Beach will be honoring Masner who spent nearly 40 years at Long Beach State prior to her retirement in 2020.
Masner began her Long Beach State Athletics career as an undergraduate working inside the ticket office, while simultaneously playing softball for the Beach. She was recruited by the program's first-ever head coach, Chris Miner, then went on to play for George Paris and long-time head coach Pete Manarino.
Following her graduation from Long Beach State, Masner rose through the department ranks from the ticket office, to head of events management, and then as an Associate Athletics Director of Compliance. In 1994, Masner was named the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA), a role that she would go on to hold for 25 years. She was elevated to Deputy Athletics Director, a role in which she held until her retirement after 37 storied years at Long Beach State.
Masner's impact far exceeded college athletics as she was also a supporter of equal rights and opportunity. She served as the Chair of the CSULB President's Commission on the status of women, and working as the Deputy Title IX coordinator for athletics, working on the University COVID-19 Response Team, serving on the University Clery Committee, and being an inaugural member of Long Beach State's Diversity and Inclusions Team.
During her time at LBSU, Masner served on both the NCAA Division I Softball Championship Committee and the Division I Softball Rules Committee, and she was previously the Big West Conference representative on the NCAA Division I Legislative Council.
A member of the Big West Council and the Executive Committee, Masner was previously a part of both the Compliance Committee and the Championships Committee, while also serving as the chair of the SWA advisory group.
Additionally, Masner played a crucial role in the completion of the Soccer/Softball Clubhouse which was finished in 2018. Her facilities background helped in the planning stages, while her efforts and renown through the University helped the project receive approval, and her relationships within the community, as well as her own personal investment helped get the project across the finish line.
The Beach will be honoring Masner with an invite-only pregame ceremony in the Pointe at 5 p.m., then at women's volleyball match at 7 p.m., with a special presentation between sets 2 and 3 will include an on-court honor as well as videoboard presentation.
