Dela Cruz, Meyer, and Jordan Named Big West Players of the Week

Dylan Dela Cruz was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Zayna Meyer claimed Setter of the Week honors, and Jaylen Jordan earned Freshman of the Week accolades
IRVINE, Calif. – After another 2-0 week in Big West action, Long Beach State boasts three conference Players of the Week. Dylan Dela Cruz was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week, while Zayna Meyer collected Big West Setter of the Week accolades, and Jaylen Jordan was selected Big West Freshman of the Week.
Dela Cruz, a senior libero, earned her second conference award of the season after turning in a career performance last week. The Long Beach, Calif., native racked up a total of 59 digs to average 5.90 digs per set against UC San Diego and UC Irvine. Dela Cruz started the week with a career-high 34-dig showing at UCSD, marking the first time since 2010 a Long Beach State player recorded 30-plus digs in a single-match. She followed that performance with 25 kills against UC Irvine. Dela Cruz has now recorded four 20-plus dig performances on the year.
Meyer claims her fourth Setter of the Week honor after another solid week in which she recorded 116 assists to average 11.60 assists per set as she piloted the Beach to a .234 attack percentage. The redshirt freshman setter also added 2.80 digs per set, 0.80 blocks per set, and 0.20 service aces per set, while posting a team-best .615 clip (9-1-13). Meyer recorded double-doubles in both contests to give her 10 on the year, including four in the last four matches. On Friday, Meyer distributed a career-high 64 assists to go along with 11 digs, four blocks, three kills, and an ace. The next night, she posted 52 assists, 17 digs, six kills, four blocks, and an ace.
Rounding out the Beach trio of award winners is Jordan who earned Freshman of the Week accolades after averaging 3.50 kills per set and 2.60 digs per set, while hitting .237 (35-13-93) and earning her first career double-doubles. The outside hitter from Tarzana, Calif., knocked down a career-high 22 kills at UC San Diego on a .314 clip (22-6-51), while adding 13 digs, and an assist. Against UC Irvine the next night, Jordan collected 13 kills, 13 digs, three blocks, and another assist.
