Le Roux comes to the Beach from UNLV where she served as assistant volleyball coach
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Women's Volleyball Coach Tyler Hildebrand announced the hiring of Cursty "CJ" Le Roux as assistant coach on Tuesday.
"We are incredibly excited to add Cursty Le Roux to our staff," said Hildebrand. "She has a wealth of international and National Team experience. She will be a great mentor and role model for our team. She is a wonderful mother, wife, and person. We believe that we need to be great people first and great at volleyball second, and CJ certainly has that in the right order.
"CJ is an excellent recruiter. She grinds. We needed to find someone with the passion to recruit and do the hard things to bring in talent. I am confident CJ will bring that fire and passion to recruiting. CJ will be an integral part of our trying to climb to the mountaintop again, and I can't wait to get started with her."
Le Roux comes to the Beach after spending the 2021 season as an assistant coach at UNLV where she helped the Rebels capture the NIVC Championship as they finished the year with a 28-9 overall record. Prior to her time at UNLV, Le Roux served on the Athletes Unlimited Player Executive Committee following a successful international and collegiate playing career.
As an assistant coach at UNLV, Le Roux worked closely with two-time AVCA All-American and back-to-back Mountain West Player of the Year Mariena Hayden. With Le Roux on the bench, the Rebels made a run to the Mountain West Volleyball Tournament Championship match, before earning their fourth-straight appearance to the NIVC. The Rebels would go on a five-match winning streak to close out the season en route to winning the 2021 NIVC Championship with a 3-0 sweep over Valparaiso.
With Athletes Unlimited, Le Roux helped recruit players for the first professional women's indoor volleyball league in the United States. She helped create policies and regulations for both players and staff pertaining to injuries, pregnancies, and COVID-19 protocols. She also assisted with initiatives directed toward player accommodations for housing, training, and childcare.
Le Roux played professionally in Europe and Asia over eight seasons for Quimper Volley 29 in France, Rabita Baku in Azerbaijan, Dresdner SC 1898 in Germany, Galatasaray Daikin in Turkey, and Hitachi Rivale in Japan.
Additionally, Le Roux was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team from 2012-17 where she competed at the 2015 Pan America Cup in Lima, Peru, the FIVB World Grand Prix in Omaha, Neb., and the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. She was also on the 2013 squad that took Silver at the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in Tokyo, Japan.
Le Roux played collegiately at UNLV where she was named 2008 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and selected to the all-conference team in 2009. In her two years with the Rebels, Le Roux saw action at middle blocker and finished her career with 535 kills and 178 total blocks.
"Being from Los Angeles, I've had a front row seat to the legacy of Long Beach State Volleyball," said Le Roux. "I am excited to be in a position to add to the prestige. LB Nation is a force and I could not ask for a more promising opportunity.
"After talking with Tyler, I knew right away that I had to be a part of the Beach family. I owe a heartfelt thank you to Tyler for believing in me. I know that with his guidance, this program will become the powerhouse it once was. Tyler has proven that he is an elite coach and I am so excited to learn from him.
"After playing with his wife, Kristen, on the National Team, I connected with her mindset and integrity, which makes the position even more rewarding.
"I would not be in the position I am in today without my husband, Kevin Le Roux. I am excited for him to see what high-level volleyball looks like in the USA for both the men's and women's programs, and to have his support along this journey."
Le Roux earned her undergraduate degree in social behavior with an emphasis in human understanding from Arizona in 2018. The former Cursty Jackson is married to Kevin Le Roux, an Olympian for Team France who has won FIVB World League and World Championships. Together, they have a son, Dwayne.
